Not that I'm closing in on 200 hours, thought it would be worth laying out how I started the transition between beginner and intermediate given the number of questions / concerns people have about taking the step up from beginner.
For context, I got the full 150 hours at beginner before transitioning fully to intermediate (c. 100h on DS, 50h of outside CI). It's also worth noting I'm a premium user.
What I've done to make the transition to intermediate as comprehensible as possible
- As often suggested here, I started by filtering by "old". This meant I started intermediate with a number of videos that still make use of the whiteboard. I spent an estimated 5 hours going through all of the debate videos (with Adria, Teri), and playing a game with Toni.
- From here, I did about 2-3 hours of what I'd call "the Pablo in the park" series. These are essentially a run of videos of Pablo speaking about all sorts of topics, whilst in a park in Bangkok. A lot of these focus on Pablo's thoughts on language learning and were very interesting. I was nowhere near finished with these videos at this point, but found they got very samey, and some were less comprehensible.
- I then completed all (I'd estimate 3-4 hours) all of the old videos of Pablo travelling and describing the places he visited - Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Malaysia. I really liked these videos because they were both very comprehensible (with Pablo pointing things out from behind the camera) and interesting/a bit different
- These c. 15 hours gave me a good background to move beyond solely Pablo. Alma and to a lesser extent Sandra are still very comprehensible at this level so could be watched earlier, but it was after the above that I spent 2-3 hours going through a few of their older videos
- Following on from the previous videos of Pablo travelling, and on the recommendation that Agustina's content also remains very comprehensible at intermediate, I spent 2-3 hours watching Agustina's travel vlogs.
My comprehensibility has remained high, and in testing harder content I am finding that my comprehensibility has started to increase. I am quite ruthless about the content being as comprehensible as possible and will stop watching a video where I'm only following the gist/have limited understanding in places and add them to my watchlist to come back to.
Overall, this is to say: don't be afraid to make the transition to intermediate content. In general, it's a lot more interesting than beginner as there's a greater variance in content and when not as reliant on whiteboards, there's more freedom to do things like the travel video (though ofc we are starting to see that for beginner - e.g. with Andrea walking around the city in Canada).
