Every year there is one or two cosplays that show up in huge numbers. Such as last year's Stranger Things Hellfire Club. Or some examples from previous years: the stranger things sailor outfits, Loki gator, Starlord.
To become the 'it' cosplay I find that it has to be: A. Easy to recreate/purchase B. Be from a show/movie that came out pretty damn recently
I have two predictions for this year:
First: I think Wednesday will be popular, with many a dance recreation. It's simple to recreate, and was very much a part of the social discourse. The only things hurting it is it's not as recent, having come out not long after last year's con, and it's typically more of a female cosplay (though I'm aure we will aee genderbent versions).
Second: Barbie/Ken. Super recent, super popular, and basically you can just slap some pink on a cosplay and call it kenough. What hurts it is it is so recent a lot of folks won't have had time to prep a cosplay, and there isn't a single iconic look from the film to recreate. I expect this to more go the route of the Loki gator, where folks just work in barbie into existing cosplays a lot of the time. Starlord Ken and Barbie Gamora, that sort of thing.
What are your predictions?
