[DA2 Spoilers]I didn't understand rumours and didn't recruit fenris, can somebody give me a breif explanation about him?

Sooo yeah, i played DA2 purely for lore as i was a fan of DAO and DAI so i was a little annoyed when i missed out one of the companions since i didn't really understand what the rumour thing was in my quest log.

Could somebody just kind of say a short summary of him and any significant roles he has in the game or future games? I know i could just look up on the wiki but i feel like that would give more of a character description and finding all of his major things he does in the game is probably harder to find. I also thought some Dragon age fans would probably like doing this, thanks!
