This isnāt a complete list. Iām hoping to put out some casting-related content (whether itās a list of tips or a video tutorial or some brief guides) on a weekly-ish basis. Iām talking with some other casters about tips they would give to new casters. Here are 5 tips that new casters should hear:
Donāt give up. Or do. Casting isnāt for everyone. If youāve put in a really solid effort and arenāt enjoying it, thatās fine. Donāt get mad at yourself because youāre finding that you donāt like it that much after all.
Find something that sets your casting apart. There are dozens and dozens of competent casters. What makes your casting stand out from them? Have something unique and memorable about your product.
No one will be good when they start. It seems obvious, but Iāve talked to a lot of people that have casted a couple of games and are frustrated that they still feel like they suck.
Watch your casts. Review your work and take notes. Forget that itās your voice you're listening to. Just make notes on what sounds good or the rough spots or what you wish you had said. Listen for phrases that you say too often or places where you messed up. Re-watching and acknowledging what you need to improve on will make every cast better than the last.
You donāt really get to control if you āmake itā or not. Casting is a weird mix of skill, networking, and luck. You canāt control everything, just try to be in the right place talking to the right people to get opportunities, and have the skills to perform when you get your chance.
Hope this list is helpful. Please feel free to leave feedback or casting questions or what you'd like me to write a mini guide on next!
Additional note : Iām gonna post here hoping to help you guys learn and improve your casting. Iām not an agent and Iām not here to network you or hook you up with casting jobs. Please stop messaging me asking for gigs to cast.
