Observation I’ve made
Post Body

Hello fellow Doordash drivers. Today I’ve had a long talk with the doordash support about how the DoorDash corporation could be exploiting its drivers. Now, when I say exploit, I’m sure certain people are thinking I’m exaggerating the matter. Therefore I will type out 3 major issues in detail that could be observed as a labor exploitation; or you could say how DoorDash takes advantage of its drivers. 1. Discrepancies in pay So I live in the state of Colorado, last I checked the minimum wage was 15$ per hour. Any company that provide work/labor should at least pay out 15$ for each hour that a person is working for. There has been several occasions where I ended up sitting in some parking lot for 30-40 minutes without an order; then finally 1 order would come in with a pay of 3.50$. My acceptance rate is 84%, 97% completion rate. So if I’m one of the top dashers as the app suggests all the time, how come I have no orders in a supposed bustling busy areas???? Then how come is it even allowed that DoorDash pay a person 3.50$ for an entire hour? That is ridiculous and illegal. I understand that if its only happening to me, then its fine, I’ll take the L and shut up. However, I find it unlikely that I’m the only one being lied to and out maneuvered amongst the drivers. Now, the promotion is a whole different business. They’d ring your phone and show you 12.75$; 14$ orders, whatever the number you name it. Then after you delivered the food, somehow now the pay for specific delivery you just made has gone down by dollar or two. If a person is offered a clear wage for a service, that’s what they should receive. Skimming off the top is also illegal, I’m quite positive. 1-2 person being skimmed for dollar or two isn’t that bad, however how many drivers are there across US who wouldn’t even consider the possibility? And if you add the numbers up, say there are 3000 drivers (some full time; some half time) across Colorado who are all being skimmed for a dollar each delivery, then the total outcome should be significant number in dollar value. It is total injustice and for DoorDash to be lying and paying people (who are trying to work for them) LESS is unethical in nature and disgusting. 2. Their system with dealing of contract violations is ridiculous. So you already know how 1-2 ppl in every 10 would lie that they didn’t receive their food. However, it is hilarious bcz I’m 24 yrs old male, I rly don’t have to steal a 4-5$ milkshake from a customer to feed myself. It defeats the purpose of doing work. Ppl work to get paid and eat; not eat customers food (not to mention how most restaurants now seal their food prior to handing them over to drivers). I drive for DoorDash on the side to earn some gas and grocery money whenever I’m not occupied with my real job. Even if you provide evidence that you delivered; or chatted and talked to the customer they’d still flag your account and give you warning for a contract violation. Then it’d clear out some 2 months later. I’m sure that red line doesn’t bother a lotta people, but it certainly bothers me when I’m being accused of stealing some 4$ sandwich; I could just buy it myself, because I do work? 3. Major concern with the data that they show to drivers Not only they seem to skim off the top, they seem to edit out the data they have accumulated after sessions. Obviously the reason being to make it look like you drove less or got paid reasonably for the time you worked. Also, it is quite possible they’d show you certain miles when they ring you for order on the app, then you pick up; I end up driving more miles than the initial agreement. PS: I’m obviously not including the miles to get to the restaurant. Edit: Spelling (restaurantz).
