Stop telling clinically depressed people to “go to the gym”

Post Body

Saw a post earlier that backs up this statement. While maintaining your health is important and it may help to do a little something here and there for the short-term, lifting weights cannot and will not permanently fix years of trauma and a chemical imbalance. Especially when you’re to the point of not being able to get yourself out of bed. Plus, I’m sick of gym bros claiming that it “cures depression”.. These specific types I’m referring to are those I’ve seen online/in a real world setting. “Suffering” under the shackles of “not being able to get women to like them in their teenage years” (AKA: a completely normal experience as an average looking/awkward teen). So apparently their “depression” was cured when women started taking notice of them and they learned to stroke and cradle their ego?

TLDR: just because getting basic exercise in can help with symptoms of depression, doesn’t mean you should be parading it around as a “cure” to those ready to kill themselves.
