Valhalla's Goat forced to rethink Valentine's Day display after mindless vandalism

The store has been forced get creative after someone smashed their shop front on Saturday morning.

A popular Glasgow alcohol shop on Great Western Road has been forced to rethink their display after a mindless vandal destroyed their shop front.

Valhalla’s Goat, which stocks a selection of craft beers, artisanal wines and limited edition whiskeys, had their window smashed at 7am last Saturday, dashing their hopes of a stunning display of Valentine’s Day gifts.

However, refusing to let events ruin their plans, manager has put together a very unique shop front encouraging passers by to pop in.

In a post on Facebook, the store shared an image of the boarded up shop front with pages of A4 paper stuck across it to form a message. The message reads: “This should have been a beautiful display of Valentines gifts but some idiot with a shovel smashed the window. Come in and see all our amazing array of wines, spirits, fizz etc.”

Speaking to Glasgow Live, Phoebe, manager of Valhalla’s Goat, said she was disappointed that the vandalism took place during the day, yet wasn’t reported to police.

She said: “I think the saddest thing is it was 7am and that window is on the main road - people would have seen what was going on! But nobody phoned the police. Our bit of road’s usually so tight and Glasgow’s not shy so it’s really depressing. But hey, worse things happen.”

Since Phoebe discovered the crime, the police have been informed and Phoebe said forensics have been taken from the scene.

However, in the meantime, the little band of shops near Kelvingrove subway have come together to create something unique in Valhalla’s Goat.

Phoebe explained: "We’re fans of big signs in helvetica black on green paper, so we got all of our poly pockets and borrowed a staple gun from Roots & Fruits.

“Our shop’s such a stacked library of booze, it’s such a shame people can’t see in, it’s absolutely packed. So next best thing - badly formatted sign.

“It also means we can’t stare out of the window which is one of our favourite activities.”
