Raising legal retainer for custody case
I don’t know how to describe to strangers the nightmare my ex husband has been in court for the last three years. I have navigated this so far mostly on my own, with the little bit of help the OAG can provide. He has drawn out every action and has made this a complicated process because he continues to file motions to delay proceedings. He has also gotten more and more unstable in his behavior around the children. My children have suffered a lot over the last year or so that his behavior has gotten most erratic, to the point that my oldest has started to have panic attacks and regularly break down after being with his father. As of about a month ago, he has crossed the line from “mentally annoying and possibly harmful” to “physically unsafe” as he move out of the house he had been living in and informed me his new home was not safe. Because he is now living somewhere unsafe, and he refuses to give me his address, I have consulted with lawyers, CPS, and the attorney general, all of which have advised me to seek sole conservatorship and supervised visitations until he can show his home is safe. Unfortunately, though, because he has refused to tell me where he is and has cut contact with the children, I need the help of a lawyer to protect my children in this situation. He has created a more complicated process that I am not able to navigate on my own.
I have already contacted legal aid, and they do not currently have the resources take my case. I’ve also gone through my work discount program, which will help a lot to keep costs down. however, all lawyers require a retainer up front before they will even start filing things. GoFundMe
