Illusionist is inspired by u/CarlinePatricia's Lender. This should be stronger than Smithy, but I don't know if the effect is strong and exciting enough to make up for the debt drawback.
Mutate won't get rid of your Estates but can upgrade cards in play without wasting terminal space. Like the other 8-debt-cards, you might want to build your deck a little bit before buying it. I think it's slow enough that it doesn't make you try and not buy anything anymore after gaining 2 or 3 of, but is this exciting enough for 8 debt?
Whatever you think, I'd like to know!
My knee-jerk reaction, when I read the card, is that I would have made it $2.

Well, Delve is $2, and I'm also keeping in mind the $2-$3 cards that give 2 Cards with some other text. This seems weaker than the $3's.
