I’d like to start this off by saying that I have no idea how ACs work and what causes them to break/ice up.
Recently our dog, Summer (a chow chow) has been staying with me in my room for about 2 months now, since my sister is preparing to move out on January and she doesn’t want the dog to get attached before she leaves (Summer had been staying with her for about a year and a half at that point though). This left us, mainly me, to take on the task of taking care of her and letting her stay in my room.
Recently though, my AC started icing up a lot more frequently and my dad chalked it up to Summer’s fur clogging up the AC. We just got it cleaned today but I wasn’t able to see what they got out of there to confirm if this was true. Dad heavily suggested that we shouldn’t let Summer in my room anymore since it’s expensive to have the AC cleaned from time to time.
I’ve tried to keep her out of my room for most of the day, but I think being in an air conditioned room since she was a puppy has given her a certain lifestyle that we need to keep up with. Not to mention that it’s excruciatingly hot outside my room or in any of the common areas since they don’t have an AC. She constantly pants as well so I guess I just wanna know if letting her in my room does actually cause any of the AC parts to clog up because of the fur and even if it does, should I still let her stay with me because it’s worth having to clean the AC from time to time.
Are there any suggestions to minimize fur clogging up the AC as well? Aside for the daily fur vacuuming. Maybe gadgets that can passively suck up the fur.
