Ok, so i live in Jefferson county Alabama (Birmingham) but In a very wooded part of town. last night I heard my dog let out the strangest bark. I figured he had gotten in a fight with the dog across the street, and called him in. He spent the next several hours howling at the door, and I couldn't help but think he sounded a bit worried, our other dog was still out there, and we had never heard this howl before. Well when someone finally opened the door and he ran out, the next time we found him he was bloody and visably shook. The weirdest part was that he has puncture wounds on either side of his neck, like something had grabbed him And picked him up. I'm assuming the other dog came to his rescue at that point. Stoner has always been very intelligent and very protective of his people and other dogs. I've never seen him back down from anything, or show even a touch of fear. Here's what I have to go by -Location: Pinson Alabama -Early night time -Attacker didn't make any sounds -Attacker has arms capable of grabbing to some degree, and sharp claws capable of piercing through his skin with ease. -Attacker had to be very large and unfamiliar for it to scare Stoner so bad, he's traumatized, he can't go to sleep without immediately starting to have nightmares about it, and when awake he is still howling nonstop at the door any time ANYONE or ANY dog are outside, day or night. And around 9 o clock at night he started howling every few minutes and hasn't stopped. -He does not display this fear around any of the local dogs, so they aren't the attacker.
I just couldnt imagine him being this traumatized by anything out here, except maybe a cougar? But I don't know how he'd escape if a cougar had him by both sides of the neck... He's always been the most laid back, chill dog, almost never barks or makes a sound, But at 10 he's still howling every couple of minutesand it's really starting to get disturbing. Anyone have any thoughts what might have gotten ahold of him??
