I posted last week that my dog started having seizures. This escalated to a full 5 seizures on last Thursday.
I found this video of the most similar dog to how my dog was last week. Be warned, it is very sad and scary and shows a dog seizing.
Spoilers: She's recovering very well!
Friday was terrifying as she seemed like she had neurological damage. She wouldn't respond to her name, my finger snaps, or even whistling. I used to be able to take her outside to go to the bathroom and even on walks without a leash, but Friday she kept trying to walk into the street in a very zombie way.
I got a call from the vet that my anxiety medicine (diazepam, 2 mg) was able to be given to her twice a day. I was very happy, because my dog had been avoiding sleep since that's when she seized and I knew diazepam would let her sleep.
So Friday, I gave her epilepsy medicine and diazepam. She finally started sleeping but again was very disorientated and zombie like. But then, Friday night, when I was taking her out to go to the bathroom she pulled at the leash the way that we take our walks. She wanted to go for a walk! I was so excited, and she did really well. The local bar is just down the street, just past our normal walk, and so I took her there to socialize on the way (she is SUPER social as a lab/german shepherd mix) and it really cheered her up.
Saturday, kept improving. Took her on 2 walks, and brought her to my neighbors and had a few beers in the backyard. It was still terrifying because she kept staring at shadows and walls, but had more energy. She couldn't focus on my friends (her friends too) for more than a second before wandering away. She still didn't know her name either.
Sunday BIG improvement, she wasn't tripping anymore and was much more coherent. I gave her some vetprofen/carprofen that I had for her arthritis, thinking maybe she had a migraine. That did wonders. I actually was comfortable enough to leave her alone for 2 hours to go to the bar with my friends. After 2 hours, I went and got her, and brought her back. She loved it, and I think the push to have her socialize a lot has really helped. When she was ready to go home, she tugged at the leash and I thought she just needed to go to the bathroom, but she took the turn to my home and I took her home.
Yesterday, Monday, when I got up and started getting ready, she actually hopped a little bit obviously having more energy. She loves car rides, and I had to pick up something for work so I spent about 3 hours on the road and she was smiling the whole time.
She was pooped after the day, and slept after we got home and rested. She also seemed to know her name and understand the finger snaps. She also seemed way more aware and could see, previously it was like she could see but not really understand what she was seeing other than recognizing my face.
Today, she's even better. She is completely coherent and just a little fatigued. She was excited to go to work with me again, responding to her name and my snaps and whistles, and seems way less anxious. It really seems like there is no permanent damage, and if she keeps getting better everyday she should be mostly back-to-normal by the end of the week!
I have since found that what I thought was my dog doing a nervous teeth chattering for several years, may have been low level seizures. I'm now paying more attention to those, and am hopeful that this means she is just epileptic and does not have a brain tumor out of the blue.
EDIT: Forgot the most obvious thing, she has not seized since Thursday! She has had 2 times of teeth chattering while being disoriented, but calms down very quickly when I pet and comfort her.
