I have a Labrador/Border Collie/maybe husky mix, she's about 12 years old. On Sunday she had her first seizure. It was terrifying, but after looking it up and talking to vet assistant friends, older dogs can have a random one-time seizure. She spent 10 or so minutes to recover, she was really vacant and disorientated losing muscle control of her back legs. But after 10-15 minutes, she was fine. She had a big smile and wouldn't stop nuzzling my leg for at least an hour. I stayed home from work Monday and watched her all day, she was fine.
Tuesday I took her to work, and she seemed fine again. But at 3 AM Wednesday (Wednesday morning/Tuesday night) she had another seizure. I called the vet when I woke up, after sleeping in the living room all night so that I could watch her (She likes to sleep in the living room after I fall asleep, she moves from the bedroom to living room).
I didn't go to work Wednesday, got an appointment yesterday (Thursday) at 11 AM. She had her 3rd seizure Wednesday night at 9 PM it seemed less impactful, and she recovered quickly so I was hopeful. But after taking her out, she spent an hour pacing around the house not wanting to sit down. She was happy and cheerful as ever, but wouldn't sit still for an hour.
Then Thursday morning she had another seizure at 9 AM. She had another seizure at the vet around 11:30 AM. The vet prescribed epilepsy medicine, I went to Walgreens and they wanted to charge me $570 dollars! So I came home and placed an order online at Chewy for much cheaper, hoping that whatever injection the vet gave her would help her.
It did, until yesterday night (Thursday), she had 3 seizures, one at 10 PM, one at 11:30 PM, and one at 1:20 AM. Each seizure she recovered from, seeming slightly drunk. But the last seizure she had at 1:20 AM she was so disorientated it was really worrying. She usually downs a bunch of water after her seizure, but the last one last night she could only get a dink or two before losing balance and leaning her head on the wall (not hard, just tilting forward).
She spent an hour walking around staring at things she never does, like the wall, the hallway shelf, just random stuff.
Today I immediately went to Walgreens and got at least 3 days of epilepsy medicine before going to work. I brought her with me to work 'cause luckily my work is dog friendly. But she is so weak and doesn't have balance. She spent 30 minutes wandering around my office tripping slightly over herself and stumbling. She tripped on her water bowl at least 3 times, which she's never ever done.
Her seizures last a few minutes, she lays on her side and legs twitch, halfway through she starts foaming at the mouth and drooling as well as pees herself. The drool only last about a minute or so, and as soon as she gets a little control back stops.
She seems super happy, but really drunk. I really hope it isn't permanent brain damage, she's a rescue and I've had her since she was around 3 months. She's my kid, I've had her since I first moved out on my own.
I gave her the epilepsy medicine, and she drank an entire bowl of water in my office while wander around. She finally calmed down and is laying under my desk resting now.
She just seems off. It's scary and I'm really worried.
Thanks for reading.
UPDATE: She is recovering surprisingly well, and I'm very hopeful!!
