Dear jerk
It was this time last year you left my dog on the side of the road. He was a two month old black lab puppy. It was a little after 6pm on a dirt road miles from any residence you decided to leave him there. It was cold that night I have seen bears coyotes large predatory birds in the area. He was not going to make it that night alone. At the time I did not want another dog. We had lost our old man the day after Christmas. Moose was originally my grandmother's dog when she passed we took him in. Their loss is still hard for me.
That night was really dark and I almost ran him over. I saw what might have been your vehicle parked on the side of the road. As I approached the vehicle drove away. Then I saw a shadow cross my headlights. I went looking in the brush off on the side of the road and found him there. He was terrified with his eyes closed feces all over him and fleas crawling all over. I took him to the vet the following day only to find out he also had intestinal parasites. While I was there the vet gave me the remains of Moose.
What you did to this little dog is unforgivable. I love this little dog dearly but if I had a say you should have taken him to a shelter. He spent the first week living out of a box in his dog crate because he was to afraid to come out. When he started trusting me and my family we tried to housebreak him but he was afraid to walk on the grass. At one time we took him to PetSmart to pick out a toy only for him to have an accident when an old lady wanted to pet him. Even after a year he does not seem to trust anyone out of my immediate family. I can only assume he thinks the rest of humanity are jerks just like you.
I had convinced myself there must be somebody looking for him. I spent months trying to find you assuming that maybe his past owner might be a little kid sad about the loss of their puppy. Only when I had finally accepted that there was no one looking that I found the Craigslist ad that you found when you got him for free. Was he a Christmas gift to some little kid? Did you end up telling this kid that he went to live on a farm?
Our dogs are part of our family and when we take them home we provide them the best level of care and comfort possible. Only if that is not possible do we look into finding them a home that can provide that to them. We have never had to rehome any pets.Â
I don't know jerk, if you will read this and if you do I don't care. I hope that other wanna be jerks read this and think about a better way.Â
My little boy has become one of the sweetest and smartest dogs I have ever encountered. He still has some issues from when he knew you. We are still trying to help him recover.
Not having the chance to know him was your loss and my gain.
