Crate training is breaking my heart!

Post Body

We just adopted the sweetest and happiest little terrier from our local shelter after our previous dog passed away from cancer back in May. We are so happy to have a dog in our lives again, but we are crate training him so he has a safe place he can go to when he needs to. I sat by the crate with him in it for a while tonight before I shut the door, and he whined for a little while. I didn’t think hearing him whine would affect me so much, but I’m crying as I type this post up 😅. I know it’s better for him and all but I just feel so guilty adopting him and then making him sleep in a cage again… Anyone have any kind words to tell me we are doing the right thing?
