So a family friend's dog had a litter of 3 pups which they promised one to our family free of charge. It's apparently the mum's first litter. We were of course very excited to get the puppy around 8 weeks.
On Saturday the breeder called and said the mum had stopped feeding the puppies and there is no point keeping them together anymore so they came by today and dropped off this 4.5 week old precious little thing! First off... We were completely unprepared... No equipment, no puppy proofing the house, no experience raising young puppies. The breeder told us to feed the pup formula with a syringe. Last minute scramble and at least got some bowels, leash and doggy bed. Puppy seems healthy but sleeps a lot.
Questions: What kind of formula is best? How/when do we start introducing solid food? Should we leave a puppy this young in a crate? Doggy bed? Really don't want it to wander around and get hurt at night. Any other tips?
And before it starts of course we're taking the puppy to a vet... But with covid puppy craze it's been very hard to find a vet taking new pets.
