hi everyone! first post! so you know how humans experience phantom limb sensation? Is it possible for dogs to have phantom pain? My dog is a rescue and when he was found his fur was matted so badly his ears were stuck to his body and he was covered in foxtails. They extracted from his ears, his left eye, both his front paws, his groin, it was really wild.
Sometimes he gets into these fits where he's desperately rolling around on the ground and snapping at himself, sticking his paws in his mouth, batting at his ears, etc. It's really sad and hard to watch but i try to give some soothing pats on the head when he calms down a bit. I've taken him to the vet and they said he's fine (but gave me a medicated shampoo to help with his incessant paw licking and scratching)
Trying to brainstorm what could be up with him? The fits keep happening
