i rent out a couple spare rooms in the front half of my house and while 2 of my dogs get used to the new people quickly, our newest puppy is more attached and protective and barks every single time she sees or hears anyone who isn't us. i've been teaching her commands like come, sit, quiet but getting her to ignore and/or trust these people & not bark in the first place is proving tricky. i thought it might be helpful to keep a bowl of treats by the front door so that people coming & going can give her the command to be quiet and then reward her when she complies, so she associates them with good things instead of seeing them as a threat. i used pupperoni training treats to teach her the commands she knows but she barks at these folks so often i'm afraid it wouldn't be healthy to use them that frequently. it would need to be appealing enough that she won't opt to just bark anyway, so her regular kibble is probably out of the question. does anybody make small, bite-size treats that are more appealing than kibble but won't cause problems if she has a bunch in one day?
