Hi,
I have a one year old dachshund/beagle mix. He's very socialized and we go to the park and for walks often. He recently started this habit of rolling in poop he finds at the park, or if another dog pees somewhere he'll go and rub in it. We try to keep him engaged with toys or the other dogs but he's doing it obsessively. Before, he would roll in the grass sometimes, but now he actively looks for poop or pee to go roll in it. When he does it (when I can't stop him beforehand) I firmly tell him no or even give him a tap on the butt. Still doesn't stop him though.
I researched it and the only answer I can find is that wolves used to mask their scent and so now dogs do it too.
Do any of you have problems with this? Any solutions?
