Post Body

So, I live in an apartment that allows large dogs, no big deal. I own an American Bulldog. I have been living in this apartment for over 10 years, had my boy for a year now. When I rescued him from the local (very awesome) shelter, I took him by the apartment office to let the manager see him. First thing she says is, that's a pit, not supposed to have them (though other people have them in these apartments),but after I told her it was not, that it was an American Bulldog, she was ok with it. Fast forward a few weeks later and she tells me, well your breed dog is on the dangerous dog list, so you must always have him on a leash outside. Ok, no big deal, I always do.

Fast forward a year later, many other people love my dog b/c he is soooooo friendly to everyone. Well, I out walking him when I see a small dog running towards me. His owner had him off leash outside their back door. Ice Man (my dog, 91lbs) loves other dogs typically and has no issues at all with small dogs (he even loves hanging in the small dog area letting the little guys chase him around). The owners of the small dog see me and keeps trying to call his dog back (my dog and his have met before walking on leashes). So I bend down and get his dog to stop at me so he can get him. Ice Man finally notices the small dog, and being the friendly boy that he is runs over and sits down (he is on the retractable leash I used some my apartment complex) . The small dog then proceeded to attack my boy, and bites me on my ankle (didn't draw blood, but have me a few blood blisters and some slight pain while walking back to my place). The guy is able to catch his dog at this point, apologizing. And I walk off.

My rant is that my apartment complex made it a big deal that I always have my boy on a leash b/c he is on the dangerous breed list, but yet, they dont care that other dogs are not. And other people think that just b/c you have a small dog, it's ok to let them run around with no leash. Yes, your small dog may be cute, but him being off leash and running up aggressively to larger dogs (who are properly on leash) is the cause of many incidents that give larger breeds a bad rep.

Please, be responsible. Use a leash in areas with other people, your dog might be really good normally, but you never know how they might react to other dogs. Luckily, my big boy didn't harm the small dog or I would be dealing with animal control right now against my dog when I was not even his fault. He was just trying to protect himself and me from an aggressive small dog.

Edit:sorry about potato title damn phone changing words and adding word
