Looking to adopt another dog, lucked out with my first one. Help for second?
Post Body

Do you have other pets?

Yes! I own a 5 year old JRT/Whippet mix. He's VERY chill, but he doesn't like dogs bigger than him (he's 25 lbs. If I adopted a puppy, and he grew up with the dog, he'd be fine, but I don't have time for a puppy). He's very playful, but relaxed.

I'd also be living with my friend, who owns a shitzu who doesn't care about anything, and possibly a cat.

How much shedding, barking, farting and drooling can you tolerate?

I prefer minimal shedding, as my current dog sheds like crazy, but it is not a must thing. Farting doesn't phase me.

No drooling, or as little as possible.

Grew up with dachshunds, so kind of used to barking, but prefer minimal barking.

What size of dog are you looking for?

Seeing as I live in an apartment, I'm looking for a more medium-small dog. Nothing bigger than my current dog, who is 25 lbs (he's fairly tall, though), as he's terrified of dogs bigger than him.

How much grooming do you want to do, or how often can you pay a professional to groom him?

Would not mind brushing daily, and could do professional grooming 1-2 times a month. My friend, whom I will live with, grooms her shitzu herself, so could probably swing that way.

What's your activity level? How much time a day can you give to walking and playing with the dog?

I try to take my dog to the dog park 1-2 days a week, but most of the time he gets about an hour of walking a day. I don't do any hiking or swimming or long walking. I work a fair amount, and on my days off I prefer to take him to the dog park or just hang out and play.

How often will the dog be left alone? If needed, could you hire someone to walk your dog when you can't be home, pay for a doggy daycare, or come home at lunch to break up the day for him?

Currently, I work about 4-10 hours a day (I'm a server, so hours can be a bit random, but even when I work a double, I get a break of at least 2 hrs to walk my dog).

How trainable does your dog need to be?

Fairly. My current pooch isn't the most trainable little bug, but I lucked out in the sense that he's very well mannered. Looking for either the same, or a trainable dog.

Do you live in an apartment? Are there breed or size restrictions?

Yes! I live in an apartment. There are no size restrictions, but there are restrictions on "aggressive breeds". I don't have an entire list, but they are your typical "aggressive breeds"

Do you have a fenced yard, or is there a large fenced area nearby?

No, my dog would remain on a leash at all times outside. I do try and take them to the dog park 1-2 times a week at least.

Do you have young (i.e under ~8) children?

Nope.

Are you experienced with owning/training dogs?

I do have experience owning dogs, I grew up with them and I have my own 5 year old dog. As for training, not a lot. I've watched and read a LOT, and I did fairly well with my dog, but I would never claim to be very experienced.

Are you easily frustrated or stressed?

Somewhat, yes.

Where do you intend to keep your dog?

In the apartment, they would have free reign (aside from my friends room), with a dog door leading out to the deck. I would do crate training if needed, but my current dog does not like the crate, and doesn't need it.

What's the weather like where you live?

Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. Temperate climate - hot summer, chilly but usually mild winter, lots of nice weather in the in-between months.

What are you looking to get out of your dog? (i.e a running buddy, a lap warmer/companion, guard dog...)

I want a side kick. My current dog is such a joy. He loves me and being near me, but he loves EVERYONE. I want my new dog to love me and my dog. My current dog grew up with dachshunds, and he loved them. He is super playful, so I want a dog that's playful, but very chill.

Like I said, I think I lucked out. When I got my dog, I got him spur of the moment, was not educated about the breeds he was mixed with, and didn't know what I was getting into. Luckily, he is equal parts insane, (very playful, no attention span) and relaxed. He is mild mannered and lovable, and I'm looking for that in a new dog.
