I have a 4 year old jack russel/whippet mix named Diesel. I recently adopted a little kitten named Nova. Nova is about 4-5 months old. Diesel has seen a cat, as we used to have one when I lived back home, but the cat was never on the ground, and usually outside.
I got my cat a cat tree, and I put a baby gate to the bathroom so Nova has run of the bathroom, where his food/water/litterbox is, and he has a perch, his cat tree.
Diesel and Nova aren't the best buds. Diesel just stares at Nova, sometimes growls, and if he gets close to him, he'll bite at him. Nova is more chill, and cautiously walks around, and 'fights' back when Diesel goes for him.
I'm keeping them separated when I'm at work, Nova in the bathroom and Diesel in my room. I always pet both of them and play with both of them in front of the other. It HAS been less than 24 hours, so I'm not totally disheartend, but I wanted to hear some success stories!
Have any of you brought a new cat or dog into a home, and they didn't get along? But after awhile they did!?
Any tips? :)
