We're only human, my girlfriend and I occasionally leave food out and leave for a bit only to come back to a well-fed dog. I'm at wit's ends with what to do. I don't own any dogs, so I don't know where to start. She refuses to do anything about it and when I say anything like "bad dog!" She will get mad at me and praise him, even if he's done something wrong. We both can't help but be forgetful at times and leave food out, and he takes advantage every time. What can I do? He's several years old and the person who took care of him the most (gf's mom) moved to Hawaii. Ever since then, it's been downhill for the dog's behavior. What can I do?
