This might seem like a weird question, but I have a dog breed in whom persistent ear/head scratching can indicate a serious neurological problem. But I have no frame of reference for how much scratching would indicate this kind of discomfort, because I don't have experience with a huge number of dogs!
So, dog owners of reddit, I wanted to ask you how often your dog scratches its ears so I could have a frame of reference for "normal" so I could keep an eye on him to see if he develops the ear-scratching that could indicate a problem.
He spends maybe 10 seconds scratching his ears once a day or so. Just a pause to get the itch then carries on, it seems. He likes it when you rub his ears too. This seems totally normal to me, as it's not compulsive or recurring. I have itches too that sometimes crop up throughout the day that I've got to scratch! But again, I don't have a lot of reference so I wanted to see what you guys and your dogs thought.
