Because people have been voicing concerns already:

We're actively looking into options on how to move forward with things in regards to the tipbot. Too early to give any details. Currently talking to many people and evaluating options.

As to what happened, I don't really want to go into it as there are a lot of unknowns in the equation still.

Also: On all wallets released by the Core Devs your coins are safe as long as you keep backups and takle care of your private keys.

Regarding a more general view on coming things: If you followed GitHub work on the next Dogecoin Core update has (finally, I know) started. That will hopefully not take as long as 1.10 did as we laid some good groundwork there.

Long long term we have many options, but keeping the coin stable for everyone has priority as always.
