Hey shibes,
I don't normally enter the fray, but recent discussions this past week and the lack of direction in the community has me worried.
I have normally thoroughly enjoyed every event, idea, and maniacal scheme to come from this community... but this recent idea of building up a merchant base... has me unimpressed.
Dogecoin has never been about consumer transactions. We need to focus on what makes us different. A merchant base will not make us any different from literally every single altcoin out there.
Even Bitcoin's merchant base doesn't tend to get utilized very often. Bitcoin merchants cry out for attention because past the initial adoption, there doesn't tend to be a lot of residual transactions. Bitcoin was never designed for consumer transactions, and Dogecoin is no different.
I agree with a couple points in the initiative, Dogecoin IS great for tipping. That is definitely a place where we can continue to grow. But making consumers use Dogecoin for buying things... I just don't see the appeal.
I think shibes are starting to get scared, and starting to get greedy.
I know we all want Dogecoin to go to the moon, but perhaps the way to get there is not through an ever increasing Dogecoin price. Maybe there are aspects inside the community that are more important than the price, aspects like charity, tipping, and well, fun!
Perhaps to succeed, we all need to accept that the price, might just stay at where it is. There is no reason we need to act like every other altcoin, we're different, and I want to keep it that way.
Thanks,
-Jon
Edit: Please, if you disagree with me, comment below with your reasoning. I'd like to fully discuss this project. Hopefully I can be swayed.
