[Serious][Tech] Question about 1x - 16x Riser

Post Body

I'm considering getting a better GPU for mining and gaming. I'd still have my old GPU though, which gets 250-300 khash/s.

I can't put it in my second PCI x16 slot, as the slot is broken. I hear that I can use a PCI 1x > PCI 16x riser to attach it for mining though.

A guide mentions that some motherboards require the use of a 'jumper wire' though (see photo in the guide).

Is there any way to figure out if mine (Crosshair V Formula) needs one or not? If it does, I'm a bit wary. The guide mentioned it being possible to mess up the board.

Edit: Formatting and such.
