Hi fellow shibes!
It's been a while since my last post here about the wallet, so I'll share a few things before I come to some important points.
Let me say, that the last weeks with you in this community have been amazing. I've been learning so many new things, got to know many great people around the community and had a lot of fun working on different projects. I must say it has been exhausting too, but overall the positive nature of the shibes keep me going :)
Some stats
As of 27th Jan. the wallet has 14.214 active installations. The user count has been rising everyday since the release. Just look at this graph: Imgur!
The wallet got overall 4.55 of 5 stars in its rating with over 500 ratings. This is really great! 3655, 944, 313, 82 and 12*1 star. I always read all of them, some of them with google translate. I also try to reach out to the unsatisfied user to get in contact and solve the problem they are facing. There is an issue report function for a reason ;)
Bug free software seems to be nearly impossible, so I also receive crash reports. Most of them by mail. Apart from some seemingly random ones, there are 2 recurring crashes that I will try to fix as soon as possible. One lies in a underlying library and should be fixed there soon (I hope ;)). Thanks for sending all the reports, I can't test every single case on every single device :D
Speaking of mails: The support mailbox currently holds 1.18GB of data. I estimate around 2GB overall over the last month. Reason are the attached logfiles which can become quite big an some cases. I don't reply to crash reports, because I can't fix them by mail. But I reply to every issue report :)
Now to some important things
This is a mobile wallet. It is meant to be a temporary storage for the coins you really need on the go.
You should NOT use it as your main wallet. Here's why:
- Your phone or tablet is prone to get lost. It can get stolen and whatnot. Please use the security features of your device like PIN lock and remote wipe. Also do backups!
- Your phone has way less processing power than your PC. While being a light wallet, it still has to verify blocks with transactions meant for you. Take for example a transaction like this dogechain link. This will bring down even higher-end phones! Which brings me to the next point:
- Don't use the wallet to receive lots of very small payments like seen above. Reason is the same. Such payments clog up your wallet and can lead to "Out of memeory errors". That includes regular use of faucets.
- Using it for payouts of P2Pools is discouraged. While possible it also adds much bloat to the wallet, especially if you receive many small transactions
Generally: Only use it to carry the amount with you, that you really need on the go. Then you'll have a smooth experience with it :)
What comes next
The 1.5 desktop wallet update will help reduce bandwidth, battery usage, processing power and connectivity problems by orders of magnitude. Bandwidth usage should go down by 90%, when network adoption starts getting big enough. Please update!
For this to take effect I will release an update soon. Still need to iron out some small issues. Next version will also include:
- Selection of exchange rate provider: Cryptsy or Vircurex
- New base rate: mBTC
- Updated and new translations
- Internal changes needed to benefit from the 1.5 wallet update.
- Moon
Thanks fellow shibes, for helping me with your suggestions, feedback, reports and of course patience with me!
