Firstly, the whole downvote issue, it's ridiculous. If you have a negative comment you get downvoted to hell like you're the bloody antichrist, this place is turning into a site purely for glorification, any discussion is bad apparently. I'm being downvoted for trying to create a discussion on my opinions on why I don't like it. I'm not looking for an argument, just sharing my opinions and trying to create discussion, which is what it's all about, isn't it?
But anyway, what I thought. To be honest, this series just, I don't like it. The whole two part episodes, I get that it's to build up story and all that, but in my opinion the story isn't needed. I honestly couldn't care about a village, or 3 other people who work in an underwater base, taking 20 minutes to explain who they are. That's just my opinion.
Matt smith years, they were alright, but as it went on it did drag on a bit with the whole impossible girl stuff. I'm not sure if it's moffat I don't like or if Clara is getting on my nerves, it's just that the past few series have been getting a little bit cringey/annoying, in a way I'm not really sure how to describe, it's just how I feel.
Some may say I'm old fashioned, I need to accept change, but the fact is, yes I believe the Tennant years were the best in modern Doctor who. He was a good doctor, there new monsters every week, it didn't take half an hour to add back story, it all fit nicely into an hour long episode. The stories were new, unique every week, something you could enjoy watching. Aside from the master stuff, there were no long, complex story lines which got in the way and which messed up the flow because they had to link back to it. It matched the modern feel of doctor who, the action, the effects, the episodes. But it also had the stories of old doctor who, something different each week. It was, in my opinion, the perfect balance. Maybe it's because I grew up at the age of 7/8 watching tennant which is why I liked it, but looking back on memories I still do, and If I think about it, I still have lot's of memories about the series. With smith or capaldi, they don't stick in my brain, I'm not interested, they don't leave me thinking 'wow, that was good, never seen that before'.
Maybe it's because I'm growing up, I don't really have time for it, but I don't think it's me. I think the series has changed too much to fit in with other standards of show. It wants to have long complex storylines to fit in with other shows, but mainly just to make sure people watch the whole series and don't run away. But it's the making style. There aren't many gob smacking monsters introduced, there aren't any compact episodes which are full of action instead of emotional stories.
This series is all leading up to something probably not dramatic. With Matt Smith, the whole victorian thing got so, so boring and tiring. I believe that the tennant era got it right, action and story, new monsters, all in a single episode. But, I guess others don't agree.
I've just realised how long this is, so sorry.
