Docker newbie - questions

Docker is infuriating to use for a beginner, especially on windows. It is living hell. Docker comes up with errors when switching to 'windows containers'. I have a few questions about docker - how can I save a docker image to a certain directory? How can I get previous versions of images? How can I edit image files? How can I push commits to gitlab?
