The deadliest pointer finger that ever poked
Post Body

So I've been playing a Homebrew campaign for the past year-and-a-half. My character is a chaotic neutral wood elf war cleric on a quest for a holy sword. A running gag in our group is I love using inflict wounds; but we call it the Touch of Death since I just poke enemies with my finger and they die. Ever since the start of our campaign I've been waiting for the day I would roll a natural 20 with the spell and it happened today in the most epic way possible.

So to give a bit of background to this moment our party is currently in the capital city of a Yuan Ti empire. We're seeking a legendary sea captain to take us to a northern continent but we just found out that he's on trial for trying to smuggle religious artifacts out of the city.

I ended up offering to serve as his defender in the upcoming trial and possibly his stand in for a trial by combat; it was either me versus a single warrior or our party versus an anathema so I chose the lesser of two evils.

Over the past couple of sessions I've been gathering information on my own and through the efforts of my party. We've gaining insight into a conspiracy and found a key witness that we're keeping safe until the trial. But the past couple nights somebody has been trying to invade my dreams and glean information.

Finally on the night before the trial I set up a glyph on the door and on my sleeping body to prevent any more of these harassments. The Intruder got past my hold person glyph but then the dispel magic glyph on my body kicked in and I openef my eyes to see a Yuan Ti Mind Whisperer with his hands on my head.

I grabbed his arm and he jumped back trying to charm me with suggestion to get me to reveal the location of my friends but I easily rolled above his DC. At this point I also realized I was armorless and weaponless with no guards in the immediate vicinity. He threatened me with death but I said I welcomed it with open arms.

I then had to roll for initiative and rolled a natural 20. After this I decided to go for the good old Touch of Death with a level 4 spell slot; the highest I have available currently. We all lost our minds when I rolled my second natural 20. In total I rolled 12 d10s for damage for a total of 77 damage. My DM described as the Mind Whisperer jumped to try to grapple me only for me to lightly poke him with my finger as his body went limp mid-air and a bloody, lifeless, corpse fell on top of me.

Our session ended with me using speak with the dead to interrogate his lifeless corpse and the trial getting moved to that night from the next day after I reported the incident. Moments like these are what make DND so amazing sometimes and I'm really fortunate that I have such an amazing DM that built this world and such an awesome group of party members
