So our lvl 6 party is hunting a necromancer. We've fought some of his minions before without too much trouble. They use old ruined muskets and cannons that would otherwise be useless without the arcane bloodstones that are both inside the undead and the artillery. We track them down to an old ruined tower that has recently had a bunch of fortifications put up. The plan was simple reconnaissance. Get in learn as much info as possible and get out. Soul knife rogue (me) and our druid wild shaped into a weesle were both turned invisible by our wisard while I relay all information back to the party with my psychic link. Immediately things went badly. There were WAY more undead than we could handle. The only reason we weren't spotted was because of pass without trace and invisibly. I have a 8 in stealth and I rolled a 2. The dice WERE NOT ON OUR SIDE. The past 6 checks were all failures, but we pushed our luck. Seeing that I couldn't get anywhere near the target I thought I would sabotage the canons of which there were four. I crouch down facing directly down the Cannon barrel. Perception check to see the bloodstone: fail. Druid also makes separate perception only without dark vision: fail. Weesel without any hesitation GOES DOWN THE BARREL of the Cannon! Perception check: fail, but finds the cannonball. He proceeds to try to squeeze around the cannonball. Acrobatics check: NAT 1. He gets stuck in between the cannon walls and the cannonball. I the rogue has to intervene. Slight of hand check to carefully retrieve him: 21. I gingerly reach into the barrel of the cannon and the DM calls for an athletics check to actually pull him out. STR is my dump stat. I rolled a ZERO! At this point the DM is deciding what possible fates our actions up to this point could lead to. He then assigned six different possible outcomes to a D6 and rolled. A weesle has one HP. As I pulled he was so firmly lodged that his poor weesle spine snapped causing him to immediately revert back to his normal kenku self. It wasn't pretty. One minute our druid is perfectly fine, and the next moment he becomes hamburger before my very eyes. He begins spewing out the end of the barrel as there isn't enough space followed shortly by his magical belongings. R.I.P.
