So. I'm currently about to play a character I made a while back, the concept being a street urchin gets a crush on a princess or high nobility and decides to earn a knighthood (and thus nobility) through adventure to even stand a chance.
At first, I was split between fighter and rogue, but went with a swashbuckler rogue, since it feels like it fit the rags to riches theme better, boasting incentives for high charisma, having a focus on duelling which is a common fighting style for nobley-ey types and having the rogue abilities which could be explained by the street urchin backstory.
ATM, I'm thinking of going tiefling and taking the dual wielding feat at 4th level so I can dual wield rapiers. Honestly, I may just end up sticking with this but I've found myself wondering if an experimental dip into a fighter multiclass, even just for a level or two, could be fun for the "I'm trying to become a knight" side of the concept.
That said, I've literally never multi-classed in any system ever and I'm not really a build-minded person, so to speak, so I figured I'd ask people with a bit more skill and/or experience on the matter.
Are there any good builds for mixing a swashbuckler with a multiclass into fighter or should I just keep it simple and stick with a pure swashbuckler?
Initial instinct is, of course, cavalier, because knight but I suspect that wouldn't blend with a swashbuckler, especially if I stick with the dual rapier idea.
