I have been lucky to play in 2 long term 5e games, each lasting 2 years, with my current game running almost 3 years. I have played in dozens of shorter games, and a few hundred hours of adventurers league.
Almost all my games sort of devolve into a running joke. My long term games are semi serious, but we(including me) find a way to make everything a joke, and make OOC jokes that sort of "cheapen" the game.
If your running a serious or dark game, how do you keep it from devolving into a joke?
What tone does do your games take? Are they really serious? A long running joke? Dark and grim?
