Can I ready an attack to stop thunderous smite concentration?

If I ready an action that says I hit that NPC after he cast a spell. Could I then force that npc to do a concentration check if it's a concentration spell? We are about to face an npc that will have thunderous smite (bonus action) . I am pretty certain that my DM is throwing some other mechanic that will doubly hurt with that pushback from that spell.
