I'm currently playing a 5th level Archfey tomelock, and I'm not entirely feeling it right now.
A session or two ago, we got into a nasty prison break scenario, that would have bad made much easier if I could have spoken to my party without the guards knowing what I was saying (I was posing as one of the guards, so I could rescue my party).
The problem is, the only common language we have is, well, Common. In fact, the only language the entire party shares is Common. We could all train to learn a new language, but that would take a minimum of 8 weeks downtime, assuming we can find someone (We did joke about all learning Celestial). What wouldn't take any downtime, is either swapping to GOOLock next level, or taking Telepathic at 8th.
GOOLock:
Pros:
* Don't need a feat
* Don't need to share a single language
* Available at next level up
* Future subclass features are a nice bonus
Cons:
* Shorter Range
* DM Might not allow Tasha' subclass swapping
* Would need to swap out one of my spells for Detect Thoughts for targets to respond
* Doesn't fit the theme of the character
Telepathic Feat:
Pros:
* Double the Range of Awakened Mind
* Comes with a once-per-day free casting of Detect thoughts (Plus I can use it with my existing slots)
* Comes with a bump to CHA
Cons:
* Takes up an ASI that could be used for something else
* I have to wait till 8th level to take it
I sort of have a plan on how to go about RPing the change from Archfey to GOO, and since I have already taken Telekinetic, it would make sense to take telepathic too (I created my Characters' little sister, and mostly for flavour gave her Telekinetic), but I really don't know which route to go.
