Are there rules on hitting yourself to activate an effect? Also can you intentionally fail a save or intentionally allow yourself get hit?

So a player brought this up and i cant find anything offical so im asking. With swarmkeeper, one of the effects are that when you hit a creature that creature makes a strength save or can get moved 15ft by the swarm. With the wording he posits that he can hit himself, intentionally fail the save and 'move' over a chasim 15ft wide. Or if a party member tried to jump a gap, misses he could hit the party member and move him to safety. Now i cant find much on offical rulings so before i made a decision thought id ask here.

Thoughts?
