Me and a couple other folks are starting a D&D Club at our school using a West Marches format, where players can choose DMs and games at will. We're a little split on how to choose character stats however. Some of us think point buy would be best, and some would prefer rolling.
Me and a couple others think point buy would be best, to make sure every player is able to start at a similar power level, and so that rolling wouldn't force you into a MAD class. We think this way, everyone would be able to choose feats or multiclasses however they wanted, without feeling limited. Also a guarantee for acceptable stats would probably make the experience more kind for new players.
The other camp who wants rolling 4d6 drop the lowest also has some good points. They say that rolling is an integral part of D&D, and taking that away from character creation might make players feel worse. They also say that unexpected results can be more fun for other players, and can lead to more interesting characters.
We're meeting tomorrow to discuss this, so I could use some help with points to bring up either way. Also any other advice for club D&D would be very helpful.
