Hello! I’m looking for some suggestions for a class to play.
I’m currently a player in a 5 member party. Our group is coming towards the end of Lost Mines of Phandelver, which for 4 of us is our first ever DnD campaign. Once this is done we want to take on the Waterdeep modules, doing Dragon Heist then moving into Dungeon of the Mad Mage after that. Through playing LMOP, players have learnt what they do and don’t like playing. Our party make up in that has been a Totem Barbarian, Life Cleric, Arcane Archer Fighter, Moon Druid and a Hexblade Warlock/Aberrant Mind Sorcerer (my character). I think our party composition going into Waterdeep will likely be; the same Druid and Fighter, and we’ll lose the Cleric and Barb and gain another Fighter (Melee), and another ranged based character (potentially a Sorcerer).
So that brings me to my question: What suggestions do you have for a class that I could play as? My thought was either a Paladin or a Swashbuckler Rogue but would love some suggestions…
Some guidelines: - We’ll use 2024 rules, however 2014 subclasses are fine so long as I can adapt to the 2024 rules. - Articifer and Critical Role’s Bloodhunter are fair game too, along with anything from Tasha’s that didn’t make it into the 2024 PHB. - Happy to multi class. We’re aiming to get to high level play (but will start from Lvl 1). - I want to bring balance to the party, but as we’re hoping to go to high level I want to have fun playing it and not just be there for balance. - Ideally, a build that’d be good in social situations, as although we’ll likely have a charismatic character (sorcerer), the player themselves is generally a quiet person so may need a bit of support in those situations. - I’d like to think I have a good understanding of the game and mechanics so I’m not afraid of playing more complex builds if you have them. - I don’t want to influence other players characters choices so nothing that depends on other characters becoming a specific subclass to cover any gaps etc.
Thanks!
