I wrote a backstory and wanted to get some opinions on it!

Ragnar hails from the Wolf Tribe of the Reghedmen in the frozen wastes of the Icewind Dale. The Dale is a dangerous land filled with beasts, giants and dragons and only the truly hardy can survive there. His Tribe had been leaderless for more than a decade when he was born and that stayed throughout his entire life. Every time someone tried to declare themself leader they were quickly deposed. The lack of leader had made the tribe weaker than it should have been. The tribe was too indecisive and this would lead to either bad decisions or a lack of decision in general. The tribe was effectively in a downward spiral heading towards it's destruction.

His mother was a druid in the tribe and worshipped the nature totems. She taught him what she knew of surviving and about nature in general. She had hoped he would become a druid, but Ragnar had no desire to do so. His father had died in a hunting accident shortly after his sister was born. He doesn't even remember the man, so for him there was nohting to lose. He had always heard that his mother was far happier when his father was alive, she was more stoic now than she was. His sister did follow in the ways of their mother, having an affinity for nature.

Ragnar, like most men of the Reghedmen, was very large. At fourteen he was already six feet tall and weighed close to two hundred of twenty pounds. He went through some basic combat training, though it wasn't much. The men of the tribe weren't skilled fighters, but instead relied upon their natural strength and aggression to destroy their foes. Ragnar followed the same philosophy, using a great axe with lethal prejudice against anything that threatened the clan throughout his teens. One night, the hunters of the tribe were chasing a wounded sabercat through the snow. The cat ran into a cave and and some of the men chased them inside. Ragnar went with the men. He warned them that it seemed dangerous, and suggested that they turned back. The other men laughed at the suggestion, telling him he was being too cautious. As they followed the cat's blood, the cave expanded into a massive cavern.

When they entered the cavern, they heard a loud roar echo through the cave. They had unknowingly trespassed into the lair of an adult white dragon and it was very angry at the intrusion. It shot it's breath weapon towards the group, most of them dying. Ragnar and the few others made a quick retreat, using the small tunnels of the cave to get away from the beast. Once they exited, they warned the other hunters and they made their way back to camp and started to prepare to leave. While they were making their preparations, the dragon attacked. The druids tried to restrain the dragon with magic but all of them were wiped out by another breath weapon, including his mother. In the panic he tried to find his sister but was unable to. Having nohting else to do, he fled their camp and ran as far as he could as the dragon raged.

Ragnar had escaped but he knew most of his tribe had been wiped out. His mother was dead and his sister missing. He had nohting else left at this point. His tribe had no friends in the Dale, so he set his sights outside of it. He traveled south, going through the Spine of the World, and settled in Luskan for a time. After a few months of that he moved east, making his way to the Silver Marches. He wanted to rebuild his tribe, but survival came first.
