I've DM'd quite a bit, I've had the luxury of dm'ng mostly new players though, but even the few times I have someone who has played the game before they want to play something exotic to fly around and never be hit by enemies or have 10ft attacks or change their appearance on a whim.
Personally I feel like most everything that's exotic or monstrous in terms of race is just power crept to hell. Like looking at almost any of those races compared to a human or half orc or dwarf feels like reading a kids book compared to a novel.
Do you think it's fine for there to be such a stark difference between the newer and older races, and I normally limit my players to things from the PHB because of it.
For context, I also don't like using UA or homebrew, but I'm fine with Artificer or any classes from TCE or XGE.
Is this just me? Is it just because I have these books as compared to the others?
If you don't feel the same as me please let me know and talk to me about it.
