There we were, in a giant graveyard, full of various undead and other horrors (our first potion mimics - that was fun), when when made a lot of noise, and alerted a bunch of spiders.
My character, and one other got distracted by our favourite NPC somehow being strung up in a dead tree by some spiders, and somehow attracted the attention of six shadows.
The two of us were surrounded by six shadows.
Utterly failing to kill any of the shadows, I promptly forgot that I still had Action surge, and decided to tank the AoOs from three shadows and a Dwarf Giant Spider*. It didn't go well.
Somehow, no one died from the shadows.
After the fight, the DM admitted that he thought 3 shadows each wouldn't be too bad, they're only CR 1/2 afterall.
*DM forgot to make the spider tokens large, so we joked that they were Dwarf Giant spiders. He also got the poison damage wrong, it was supposed to be save for half damage, but he did save for no damage. He realised his mistake but rolled with it, since we'd already had a few turns of spiders by that point. It was justified by them being a smaller, and therefore less potent subspecies.
