So yes, the original keep on the borderlands map is nicer, and more readable. I made this because I wanted to do some environmental storytelling and I needed more buildings in town. So that's why I ended up drawing it.
Ok did it. took some photoshop, but there we go
I wish :| It's on A3 which does not fit in my scanner. Unless...
It is isometric paper or triangle paper. For me it's not just handy it's necessary to draw isometric maps. This one is on a drawing block, but if you wanna try it out there are website that let you print the pattern on printer paper.
https://www.printablepaper.net/category/isometric_graph for example.
I completely agree with your assessment, but that's supposed to be that way. This place used to just be the main keep. Over time they built the outer wall for the city part. Then retro fitted the baileys near the main keep. Several sieges and architectural differences in the rebuilds later. Ya get a pretty good but not perfect defensive structure. You can even check which parts are from the original walls.
They would definitely change the things you mentioned if they had money.
I give your assessment a solid 9/9

I built as I went. Which was a learning experience to maybe first map this kinda thing out. Probably a little less work that way.
