My intents with this track was to have the bassiest drop I can make. So the rest of the arrangement I'm sure must sound repetitive and bland.

I have been studying and practicing sound design for the last 8 months. I have owned my synths and drum machine for almost 8 years, but got super inspired by all the modern DnB to get into the genre. My friends have always said the path with analog is nearly impossible to get to the modern sound design - with there being automation and such.

This track used compression/fx chains, sampled into a SP-404, and was mastered in Audacity:

SUB/MID BASS LINE:

  • Mono channel through a compressor and low pass filter
  • Stereo channel through compressor/hi-pass filter and distortion fx

DRUMS

  • Mono channel the kick. Slight high-pass filter coming out the mixer. Parallel chain the kick through a low pass filter with compression and the other chain through a high pass and distortion
  • Stereo channel the percussion through compression and light distortion reverb

MASTERING STEPS

  1. Compression
  2. EQ the track to be louder
  3. EQ the individual frequency ranges until the sounds filled out
