Amplifier Impedance

Post Body
So I'm looking at an Amplifier to get that has a Sub Out option, and most are labelled to take care of an impedance ranking of 4ohm-8ohm. Does this mean that the sum of the sub out impedance and the speakers impedance must be within 4ohm-8ohm or does this mean that each individual output channel should be linked to a system with 4ohm-8ohm of impedance?
