MBBFJ201 break after testing with Greatly Improved JFET Matcher II

Hi team, looking for your guidance here.

I built a Greatly Improved JFET Matcher II and use it all the time with TO-92 JFETs. However, I recently tested some SMD J201s I soldered to an SOT32 to TO92 adapter board and values jumped around for a minute and then I did not get a reading at all( 0.02V) on both the Idss and Vp tests.

When I initially tested them in a cheap component tester they came out at NPN (not uncommon for JFETs) but after testing again they came back as a diode.

Running it through a 9V 100mA power source.

Any ideas what is happening here? Did I mess these puppies up?
