I know that each kind of cap works a little different and some builds require specific kinds of Capacitors. I also know that in many situations caps of a specific kind can effect sound, that the different types function slightly differnt, and you always get what you pay for. BUT all that aside, I have noticed that many people on this sub seem to mostly use Metallized Polyester Film Box Capacitors. Is there a reason for this?
I have and use a lot of Metallized Polypropylene Film (red drops), and Metalized Mylar Polyester Film Capacitor (green drops) in my builds. When building a project for someone else or making something that I want to hold up to tours I will source Box Caps and spend money on the good stuff. When experimenting or just making a build to hear and play around I will pretty much always use the Green and Red Drops or a mix of the two. Mostly because in my area, they are easier and cheaper to source. I prefer the look and size of the Box Caps but (in most cases) not enough to spend the extra cost sourcing them for builds that seem to have no difference (thinking basic fuzz, boost or distortion circuits) BUT maybe I'm missing something.
Are Box Caps better suited for pedals outside of ascetics and size? I ask because I have never has this question until I joined the sub and saw most people using mostly Box Caps.
