Do Kauri trees have a cutting/pruning protection even if it's on our property?

Post Body

So we have this Kauri tree that's right next to our fence that's starting to grow a fair bit and I want to prune it. My dad seems to think that all Kauri trees are protected and we must seek council consent before we can cut/prune the tree. Is this true?

What if it is on higher ground than the house and therefore clears the roofline?

We don't want it gone, we just want to cut it down shorter/prune it.

It's about 2 and a half meters tall.

Yeah thank you, so no real way tofind out if it’s truly protected other than to contact the council huh.

Oh that’s good news. Thank you.

Auckland Council, I had a look on their zoning map to see if it was a protected tree and couldn’t find anything.
