First off I must say I haven't ventured into starting any projects and I need help on what tools/equipment to do things "The right way".

1 For the raspberry pi 3 I bought it at the local Jaycar Electronics store (AU) and

now feel ripped off, I have seen startup sets for kodi and such and that bundles with the main board for around $99.

So now I have a board with nothing else. I ask whether I should be buying a set for kodi or whether I should create a PiPhone? I've seen the video for it but I might have to wait until it develops further.

2 For the Arduino I bought the board by itself, and on another occasion bought a starters kit, a breadboard, a 5x5 matrix, LED single color lights in set of about 3 colors and some other stuff.

Question: If I continue to buy parts for this or that plans, do I really need gloves and soldering kit etc?

I'm just trying to budget whatever idea I have for them. And my ideas come and go and things like a PiTop seem pretty cool, I'm just wondering if its right for me.
