Post Body

My boyfriend and I are going to Belize in February. We have no diving experience. I'd like to dive off of caye caulker and see the barrier reef up close. Would we need certification before going on the trip? What materials can we read and study to prepare for our trip?

I would really like to see the reef up close, but I do want to make sure we wouldn't damage the reef through inexperience or try to do something we shouldn't do. I plan to only go on dives with an instructor or guide, but am also not sure what the best group to go with would be.

Also we live in Indianapolis, so besides swimming pools it would be hard for us to train.

Edit: Thank you so much for the thoughtful responses and useful information. I will edit again to let everyone know what we decided after doing some talking and research.
